Updates

  • We shot the movie trailer Saturday the 25th for the Dion's Enigmas movie franchise first movie, with an excellent cast and crew. Director and AD, Tony Cabral, who works with Fox and has been in the biz for a long time, was on set to give us very helpful technical assistance. Cinematographer Pascal Beauboeuf ran one camera for closeups, while I ran the main camera. There were a few hickups, but we conquered it. Barry Cole helped with set changes and was an awesome host. We filled six CDs for a 4 minute trailer. Production Designer Sarah Sharp's makeup was beautiful, and so realistic that one person told an "accident victim" he should sit down because he looked ill. Sarah also did wardrobe and props. Sheila acted as administrative assistant, a job she does well, and controlled house traffic, got all of the forms signed, and set lunch out for everyone. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to make this work, and we couldn't have done it without everyone doing their part.

The cast was really terrific, and played their parts really well - I was very pleased. Their acting will make a great trailer. Cudos to the people you will see.

It will take two weeks of editing to make this trailer a production. I'll put a link on when the movie site and trailer are all ready.

  • Fundraising for the first movie begins in mid March.
  • Casting decisions for day parts (short parts) for the planned May movie production will be made in April.
  • Unconfirmed registrations were removed from the database. We use an opt-in system for registration that requires manual screening and approval, then clicking a confirmation link, and takes up to 12 hours. No contact is made prior to confirmation.
  • Free new actor training was held twice in safe environments. Training included: Emoting in speech, body language, actions; Creating a character; Action/Reaction; and Scene work; with an emphasis on blocking and cameras.
  • Registration and mail delivery problems. If you don't get a response within 12 hours, please try again, or use the contact form.
  • Entertainment legal representation opportunity now open.
  • Social marketer needed. (Area resident) - contact us through Request Registration, for details

Series and Character Descriptions

We know actors want to see character descriptions and scripts, and we will be as accomodating as possible. For competitive reasons, we can only give brief descriptions. More is available if you register, plus scenes that give the flavor of the story and characters. The script will be made available to actors that pass the preliminary screening and are called for auditions. Following are brief descriptions:

Actors are needed for a movie trailer for ~ January 30. Deadline: Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012. Compensated. Those chosen will be in the trailer, test movie, and movie production.

Dion's Enigmas is a legal dramedy series which will produce up to four titles per year in the St. Louis area. They are intended as high quality, two hour movies (New Media) for Home Theater streaming, followed by distribution in other venues, such as possible theatrical release and VOD. The quality will be competitive with Hollywood style movies, but not the great theater extravaganzas that Hollywood makes.

The primary role of the movie is entertainment, but the series achieves (the vision) this with plots that look at certain aspects of justice... or injustice... in the legal system, thematically based on character situations. It asks some very deep questions, often controversially, in an entertaining way.

The primary series actors will have recurring roles.

Dion is the attorney who is constantly faced with this task. He is independently wealthy, moderately good looking, not a prima donna, hard working, a great legal mind, and 35ish.

X is an ex-cop, and she and Dion have a healthy interest in each other. She is seductive, devilish, very capable, good at marshal arts, under 5'8", dark hair, 30ish.

X is Dion's Asian office manager who oversees his business interests, as well as doing his research; 40 to 55.

X is Dion's PI, (Hispanic, African American, Native American... ) who does a lot of his investigating and confrontation; 25 to 50.

Ryan, secondary actor, is a wounded veteran, 30ish., walks with a limp (or similar), at university in computer programming, and in trouble. If possible, this part will go to a wounded veteran (but no publicity is attached - mentioned in credits only), and may be a recurring part.

Kelly, secondary actor, Ryan's girlfriend, is an exotic dancer, 30ish., and in trouble.

Peter and his friend David, secondary actors, are lower income, general labor, typical 20 somethings, and always in trouble. One antagonist.

Judge Higgins, secondary actor, may be recurring, is a no-nonsense judge in his 50s or later.

There are ~40 day actors (day actors have a speaking part in one scene).

There are small numbers of extras, such as jury members.

Dion, the ex-cop, the office manager, Ryan, Peter, Kelly, and Judge Higgins, are needed for the trailer production, and will continue with the production. Other roles will also be cast for the test movie for convenience at the same time.

You will work with Dorian on just the trailer production, who is a trained actor, has directed plays, is trained in video production, and is the writer and producer. A creative crew will be assembled later for further production. The script is finalized for production and an early version gained the interest of an Emmy Award winning director. Distribution will be on FlixStreamer.com. Over a year of effort has gone into this business.

You will not be standing in line in the weather for casting, nor will you be sitting for hours with a crowd of people you don't know. Initial screening is being done through video, followed by callbacks for personal auditions. Our goal is to make auditioning as easy and friendly as possible.

Coming Opportunities

  • Experienced AD to work with the producer
  • Assistant Producer (functions as assistant to the producer)
  • Musical Director
  • Set Decorator (set design)

All creative opportunities are voting memberships, and compensation is approximately low-budget SAG/AFTRA scale, plus profit percentage, although this is "New Media," and appropriate variations may occur.

Important Notice Regarding Financial Risk

Movie Stream Productions uses a "New Media" business model. As such, during the formative stages, the business model is considered viable based on similar practices in use in the movie making and distribution world, but are not proven in aggregate in this particular model in actual practice. The prospective candidate must be aware that engaging in an unproven business model may have financial risks, and that the success of any motion picture can be assured by best practices, such as audience testing, but not guaranteed.

The candidate should not rely on this venture for income to live on, but should consider it a means of additional income which may become a good paying opportunity. In particular, Movie Stream Productions does not guarantee employment, return on investment, profit percentage payments, payment of percentage salary contingency, and does not enter into Agreements for regular wages as a major Studio might (or used to). It hopes to create a respectable business which achieves regularly recurring work for people, that pay well (wages plus profit sharing) for as long as a series, in perpetuity sales, and other opportunities last.

Community information about this opportunity

I'm the business owner, Dorian Cole, and I have been a business manager, with management and technology experience from Fortune 10 to startups, who has one foot in the high-tech business world, and since the 1980s has had one foot in entertainment. From my Internet technology and market research in 2001 on artificial intelligence and where the Internet is going, I knew the entertainment market would soon be going to movie production dispersed throughout the world. This would be assisted by media convergence, streamed to TV settop boxes and computers. In other words, watching movies from the Internet, on your TV.

It's happening today. The market has taken a few faltering steps, with wide movie production and distribution industry involvement, with such venues as NETFLIX® and BLOCKBUSTER® pushing market acceptance and profitability. Something new happens almost every week.

Production in this new space is called New Media. For us, it's a blend of TV, movie, theater, and Internet production and distribution techniques. It isn't meant to eliminate TV or Hollywood. It is meant to give people another entertainment choice through another venue of their choice (streaming, followed by theater interest, then TV VOD). We don't have to gamble on finding distribution - we go directly to national and international distribution after post-production.

First we have to prove the business model. We have to go through stages of testing a prospective movie to make sure it is a market winner. Then we have to produce the movie and advertise. This means we have to make a very high quality production, but for now done very inexpensively, so we're not gambling, but doing a winner.

The end result, hopefully, will be continuously recurring entertainment jobs in this area, which will give local graduates and residents a local opportunity (Hollywood and NY are very difficult to get into), give casting agencies work, give acting coaches and colleges work, give production crews and companies more work, with unlimited potential for growth.

We're committed to using local resources, developing a thriving movie community here in the greater St. Louis area, and promoting local businesses. Local businesses can be featured in a number of ways in our productions. For example, we've requested Hapkido-USA to do our martial arts choreography.

It is not an easy task - in fact so far it has taken over a year of dedicated effort, and will take many more months to see success. Wish us success in bringing jobs to the St. Louis area!
